Canon's got great news for astronomers, homesick aliens, and whoever else might enjoy taking photos of the night sky: The EOS 60Da, a successor to the EOA 20Da, is here. The camera?offers a modified infrared filter and a low-noise sensor with "heightened hydrogen-alpha sensitivity."
In plain terms? This camera's?specifically optimized for astrophotography.
The 60Da has an 18-megapixel CMOS sensor, a huge upgrade from the?8.2-megapixel sensor offered by the 20Da, and its infrared-blocking filter is specifically made for capturing "magnificent photographs of 'red hydrogen emission' nebulae and other cosmic phenomena."?
These details mean that this camera will capture all the things stargazers love to see, but that it'll probably not be the best gadget to reach for when you're snapping candid photos of your friends (as you'd have some odd color-balance issues to deal with).
The Canon EOS 60Da will be available later this month. It will set you back $1,500 and can only be ordered from "select authorized dealers."
